G arima Agrawal while working on her Girl Scout Gold Award, entitled her project “Seeing is Believing”. She began the project in May 2007 and completed it in December 2007.The 16-year-old collected 200 used eyeglasses for recycling to the less fortunate around the world. She arranged for an expo at the Glendora Public Library where she coordinated the entire day’s events. She had booths of information from the Blind Children’s Center, Foothill Center for the Partially Sighted, Village Books, Glendora Vision Center and Covina Eye Center to name a few. She also had Mayor Ken Herman speak in support of her project. She reached out to elementary schools to show children the importance of eye care by inviting them to this event. Garima volunteers at the EYE-DAS club for the visually impaired, which is where she became aware of the needs of the visually impaired and learned about their lifestyles.
