T his year’s 21st Annual Youth Edition again overwhelmed us in sheer numbers. From entries numbering over 1,100 our staff was required to choose those that best represented a cross-section of schools, students and subjects as outlined by our requirements. We were, by space limitations, able to feature less than we would have liked. Advertising support was off due to our region's economic woes and we were not able to expand our page count to that which we had anticipated. In order to not disappoint some great kids who wrote some great stories, we decided to feature them on this website (extra stories). To those who were not included, we are sorry. To the many businesses, organizations and individuals who generously stepped forward to support this 21 ANNUAL YOUTH EDITION (see business directory here), we offer on behalf of the Glendoran, our many participating teachers and students, a big heartfelt —THANK YOU! At a time when competitive swimming became so prominent during the recent Olympics in China, it was particularly timely that the Glendoran featured an extensive article about Coach E. Kane Waggoner (see page 18 of the Youth Issue). Waggoner was responsible for starting the very successful swimming program at Glendora and decades after having been the coach at Glendora High, is still remembered, admired and appreciated by his former students for the difference he has made in their lives. Recently Coach Waggoner was honored as the very first inductee into the Glendora High School Hall of Fame.Sadly in the Obituaries section of the magazine are Charles "Chuck" Teater, former planning assistant for the city of Glendora; Sheldon Jackson, Ph.D., professor emeritus of history at Azusa Pacific University and author of the book “Beautiful Glendora”; Betty Chieves, local activist, volunteer and Republican devotee; Andy Mulhall, retired educator and administrator of Glendora Unified School District, and Rev. Richard Shackell, rector emeritus of Grace Episcopal Church. Joe and Ida
