Mildred “Skeeter” McCaskill KobzeffAugust 7, 1917 - December 26, 2009 "D id I tell you the one about the blond on the tour bus with her friend?" We would say no and relax as "Skeeter" unfolded a plot that led to a clever punch line and we all enjoyed a good laugh together. Thus was established the usual protocol each time we would meet this woman who was to become such an important part of our lives for the next twenty-six years. We began our dream of publishing a historical magazine to capture the unique history of the community and its many colorful individuals in January of 1983. We were blessed when Skeeter agreed to contribute to its fledgling beginning with our second issue. She never missed a single edition from that one on for over twenty-five years. Skeeter's incredible recall of places, events and people brought a freshness and excitement to reliving the past in Glendora. Her contacts over the years were amazing and contributed more information which she relayed to our readers through her column. While we shall forever be grateful for her contributions in aiding the Glendoran in recording the history of our community, the really invaluable thing was our very close and enduring personal friendship. She became a "member of our family". We shared good times and bad times. We shared working on projects that only her expertise made their completion possible. We shared appreciation for the past and concerns for the future. We shared the belief that our history was a treasure to be preserved. We shared a respect and appreciation for the work we all dedicated our lives to pursuing. We shared the delight of a good "joke". We are certain the 'Heavenly Hosts' are smiling now. (Skeeter - watch out for the blonds you might run into.) We shall miss you, but we appreciate so very much the precious time we spent together. Joe and Ida Fracasse |
