t he Glendora Women's Club held many fundraising events, especially in the early years. The club owned a Kitchen-Aid food mixer and used it when the ladies would prepare the baked goods for their sales. It had been used a lot over the years but was getting quite beat-up and worn. The mixer was actually being used less and less since the women were doing the baking at their homes and bringing the baked goods to the clubhouse. It and other obsolete equipment were put up for sale and sold in 2000.I purchased the old mixer and gave it to a friend who has used it ever since. The mixer eventually needed new mixing blades so the manufacturing company was called to see if blades were available. The company representative at Kitchen-Aid advised that it would be easy to check as they have all their models and parts listed on the computer by serial number. The rep asked for the serial number to identify the model and sounded quite perplexed when it didn't immediately pop up on her computer screen. Sounding very puzzled, she then advised that they would have to do some research and check their files and would call back later. Kitchen-Aid appliances have never been an inexpensive purchase, but as this story goes to show - well worth the money! Now, outfitted with new mixing blades, I expect that the mixer will continue to do a great job for another 82 years! The helpful representative mentioned that the company has a collection of vintage mixers. Perhaps they will get this one someday! The mixer depicted in the photo is the actual Kitchen-Aid mixer from the story. Still looking pretty good for 82 years old! |
